Community Engagement

Since 1990, CHAS has fostered ongoing partnerships that benefit Vancouver Island schools; arts, cultural, and not-for-profit organizations; seniors’ care homes; hospitals; community groups; persons with disabilities; and groups that may be ‘othered’ or face systemic discrimination. The Society provides significant access and engagement to the performing arts, through collaborative productions, independent projects, and access to creation through community access. The Society’s programs allow it to take the work that has been achieved by emerging artists and share it with the community at large.

Community Performances

CHAS is committed to supporting local non-profits by making our community of artists available for appearances and performances. The Society requires four weeks notice for an appearance request, and four months notice to produce a larger presentation.

Winter Celebration

Each December, CHAS commissions young artists to create, design, and direct a winter holiday celebration made available at no cost to community groups, non-profits, and service organizations in Greater Victoria.

Public Education Sessions

Professional artists offer interactive performing arts presentations to students and the public at schools, festivals, education fairs, trade shows, and conferences.

Community Volunteer Program

A vibrant program where volunteers work with professional and emerging artists on every aspect of our community programs.

Alumni Residency

The Society offers mid-career CCPA graduates support to further develop new works in progress while also developing their teaching skills providing workshops and talk-back sessions. We aim to engage community members, not only as audiences, but as partner creators and artists themselves, building performances based on their life stories and experiences.
